Studio Policy.

Learning to play and master the piano is a significant commitment, and I have structured this contract and policy list accordingly. This is a semester-based contract, and month-to-month payments are to be made for the lessons.

Please always be on time for your lesson. Please log on to zoom 5 minutes earlier than your scheduled time. Please try to come to the lesson even if you're not well-prepared or you expect you would be late. Life is like a melody full of ups and downs. I will patiently work with you and still love you unconditionally!

Attendance

For each semester, a lesson day and time will be set in place for each week of the semester. Please treat these lessons like classes in a school setting--our class times and days should remain the same each week. Excellence in music requires consistency and dedication, which is the reason I structure my lessons in this way. This approach also ensures that other students' time slots are not infringed upon.

  • Your Absence - There is no refund if the lesson is canceled without notice (no show), or less than 24 hours’ notice.

  • My Absence - At times I may have to cancel a lesson. I will do my best to make this cancelation prior to 24 hours in advance of the scheduled lesson time.

  • Illness or Emergencies - It happens and I'm happy to reschedule, though please let me know at your earliest convenience.

  • Rescheduling lessons: If you need to change a lesson time for a particular week, please let me know in advance.

Cancellation/Rescheduling Policy

No refunds or credits are given for cancellations of lessons at any time. Rescheduling a lesson also can never be 100% guaranteed, due to the very limited time slots within my teaching schedule. At least 24 hours notice must be given for the reschedule. If less than 24 hours notice is given to me for any other reason than illness or family emergency, I will not be rescheduling the lesson under any circumstances. Lessons cancelled by the teacher for unforeseen circumstances are always made up. If the schedule is so tight as to not permit a reschedule, credit will be given.

Recording a lesson

Students & Parents may record their lessons in order to make practice easier and smoother at home. All ZOOM lessons may be recorded.

Terminating lessons

Students who wish to terminate lessons must give at least 2 weeks notice.

Punctuality

Lessons always start on time and end on time. I cannot extend the lesson to make up for student tardiness. If a student is more than 15 minutes late, the lesson is considered over, and no refunds will be given. If there is a specific concern that a student or parent wishes to discuss with me, I would be happy to discuss it by phone or in a separate meeting.

Practice

"STRIVE for FIVE" days a week of practice or more!  Home practice should be equivalent to the lesson length, if not more!

Recitals

Performing experience is crucial to a child's (or adult's) progress and creates goals to work towards! Two major recitals are given each year during the winter and spring months and are highly encouraged. Students will be invited to perform during each recital contingent upon consistent practice.

Payment

Payments are billed monthly and are due on the 8th of each month.

Parents Involvement:

Parents/guardians of young children are welcome and encouraged to join and participate in each lesson when at all possible. The involvement of each parent is necessary to ensure that the student may enjoy the piano within a healthy musical atmosphere. Supervised and constructive practice time spent between the parent and student on a daily basis is necessary for the progress of the student.

Parents (older children) are asked to assist their child by assigning a regular practice schedule at home. They will be asked to check their assignment notebook regularly to ensure that all aspects of their studies have been practiced. Parents may be asked to discuss and listen to their child’s weekly assignments the day before their scheduled lesson. Consistent practice time is a must in seeking progress.

I must emphasize greatly: Supervised and constructive practice time spent between the parent and student on a daily basis is necessary for the progress of the student. Parents of young children or beginning students should be willing to set aside at least 30 minutes per day to help their child practice and/or complete their assignments. Students who are of the age of 10 or above are required to at least maintain 45 minutes to an hour per day of practice.
